Bright SCIdea Challenge – 2nd place for UoN team

Three UoN School of Pharmacy Transformative Pharmaceutical Technologies CDT PhD students where finalists at this year’s Bright SCIdea Challenge at SCI London.  The team, Daniel Yanes, Sham Nawshirawan and Stefana Duca, presented a rapid, non-invasive diagnostic device for detecting bacterial infections from the breath of a patient, using a functionalised gold nanoparticle film, achieving a commendable 2nd place.

They particularly impressed the judges with their value proposition, the team dynamic and the cost potential benefits and cost savings for public health services, while their 3d-printed prototype made the concept tangible.
