RPS Science and Research Summit 2020

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) is the professional body for registered pharmacists and pharmacy. Fiona Smith, CDT student, has been a member since being an undergraduate student.  In June, RPS will hold their annual Science and Research Summit, which this year, is based on the theme of digital health and precision medicine, with talks from the NHS England Chief Scientific Officer Dame Sue Hill and Chief Pharmaceutical Officer Keith Ridge, amongst others.

During Fiona's first training project in the CDT, she undertook a formulation-based project focussing on developing and optimising polymer-coated CBD nanoparticles, which were produced using a novel method. The overarching aim behind this work was to develop CBD nanoparticles that possess suitable properties for targeted delivery to the lymphatic system via a microneedle drug delivery system, with the view to treating autoimmune conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis.

Fiona has written an abstract summarising this research, which has been accepted for poster presentation at the RPS Science and Research Summit, to be held on 19 June at County Hall, London.  The poster abstract will also be published in the online June edition of the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice.
